Happy Mother’s Day

Over 36 years ago my young sweet heart and wife became a mother. I will never forget the day! We were young, excited, and scared. God has been so good to us. This is a picture just before Chris, our firstborn, came into the world!

Betty has been an excellent mom. She has been and is a very godly lady. She has raised our children, taught them, loved them, been an example to them. She has been more than I could ever have expected in a mom!

I wanted to take this opportunity to tell you that I love you publicly. You are my dearest friend, dearest coworker, and dearest person on this planet! I love you and I thank you for all these years. I thank God for His wonderful grace and mercy to me in giving me should a wonderful wife!

Here is a picture of my wonderful family just as we started deputation back in 1985!

Chosen to do something

Today’s reading I Chronicles 13-16

I Chronicles 28:10 Take heed now; for the LORD hath chosen thee to build an house for the sanctuary: be strong, and do it.

Imagine the confidence that a person would have if he or she knew that God had personally chosen them to do something for Him. David told Solomon. You need to pay attention now. God has chosen you to build His house. Be strong. Believe. Be faithful. Get it done.

I think when we read that we are impressed that God was so clear in His command. We think of how we would have reacted if we knew that God was speaking to us.

Might I remind you that if you are called to be a missionary, preacher, pastor, soul winner, Sunday School teacher or whatever you should know that God has big plans for you. His plans do not include your failure but rather His glory.

Stand up and be excited when you think of what God has done in your life. Step out in faith expecting God to do great things. He has and He will.

50 years ago today!

On May 6, 1962 at the Wrigley Baptist Church God changed my life forever. I was born again. That day I realized my need of a Savior and trusted Jesus Christ and His finished work on the cross.

My pastor at the time, Carlton Flowers, preached on the cross and how Jesus gave His life for us. I knew that some how I had to believe that day. My dad told me later that I had been asking him for weeks if he wanted me to get saved. He told me not to worry about it knowing that when the time was right I wouldn’t be asking him. That day came on May 6, 1962.

I recently had the chance of going back to Wrigley and seeing the church from the outside. I visited Mill Creek where I was baptized the following Sunday. I remember the tears that came to my eyes realizing what God did to me and for me that day.

Though my pastor has been in heaven for years now, I suppose, I have never forgotten him and how God used him to make such a difference in my life.

I want to thank God and praise Him for saving someone so unworthy like me. I was nothing when He saved me and all that I am today is due to His grace. He loves me though I have failed Him so many times.

Do you have a testimony of when you got saved? Do you know for sure that you would go to Heaven if you died today?
