Repairing the house of God

Today’s reading II Kings 10-13

II Kings 12:9 But Jehoiada the priest took a chest, and bored a hole in the lid of it, and set it beside the altar, on the right side as one cometh into the house of the LORD: and the priests that kept the door put therein all the money that was brought into the house of the LORD.

The men of God had allowed the house of God to fall into disrepair! They were not concerned about what they should have been concerned about! The priests seemed to be taking money that was meant for repairs for themselves.

God’s people and especially God’s leaders should have been very concerned about putting the house of God in order. They had taken a less than committed step towards the house of God.

I wonder how much we today put God and His purposes and programs first in our lives. How much do we seek first Him and His kingdom? Do we consider His house more than we do our house?

Right time, right place

Today’s reading II Kings 8-9

II Kings 8:5 And it came to pass, as he was telling the king how he had restored a dead body to life, that, behold, the woman, whose son he had restored to life, cried to the king for her house and for her land. And Gehazi said, My lord, O king, this is the woman, and this is her son, whom Elisha restored to life.

This woman had been doing step by step what she was instructed to do! She left her home and went to the land of the Philistines because she was instructed to do so. She is now heading back home the same way.

She goes by to see the king to see about getting her land back. AS she enters they are talking about how God worked in her life through the ministry of Elisha. It is just the right time and the king gives her her request and then some.

It is interesting that as we do what we should, the way we should, and when we should God is at work around us. This lady could have no idea that God would be orchestrating it all to show His power in her life but He was.

Just do right. Sometimes it seems that things are not working out. It seems that we go through the routine and feel disconnected but if we will simply live out who we are and do what He would have us to do we will find that He has been at work in our lives all along!

You are not alone!

Today’s reading II Kings 5-7

II Kings 6:16 And he answered, Fear not: for they that be with us are more than they that be with them.

Elisha is in apparent danger. The Syrians were come down. Elisha knew however that God was there protecting him all along. He wanted his servant to know the same and advised him that God would protect them.

God opened the servant’s eyes and let him see the angels that were there protecting them. In the New Testament we are reminded often that we are not alone. He is with us. He is in us. Greater is He that in us than he that is in the world. He will never leave us nor forsake us.

Yet we fear what could happen and wonder why God is not here protecting us. Let this verse remind us that our God is good and that He is here.

You are not alone. God is going to take care of you because you are His!

What do they perceive when they get near us?

Today’s reading II Kings 1-4

II Kings 4:9 And she said unto her husband, Behold now, I perceive that this is an holy man of God, which passeth by us continually.

When Elisha passed by the lady perceived that he was a man of God. She then made plans on how to go about how to be a blessing to him. It is here that we learn about the prophet’s chamber for the man of God.

My question for me today is what do they perceive when I am nearby. Do they know that I am a man of God? What do my actions say to them? What testimony do my words give about me? What do my habits communicate to others. When people hear and see my attitude what do they think?

Will they believe me to be a man of God? Will they realize that I serve God? Do I live my Christian life under the radar or am I open about being a Christian?

I think we all ought to want desperately to communicate to everyone that we love Jesus?

Walking the way their parents did!

Today’s reading I Kings 22

I Kings 22:52 And he did evil in the sight of the LORD, and walked in the way of his father, and in the way of his mother, and in the way of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel to sin:

Ahaziah the son of Ahab began to reign over Israel and he did evil in the sight of the Lord.

Evil is determined not by the people, the culture, society, scientist, but by how God views it! So just because something is acceptable in our society does not mean it is not evil in the sight of the Lord.

Notice that Ahaziah does evil but he does so following his parent’s example. He also follows Jeroboam’s example set generations before.

I hope that the story they write about our children takes a different slant. I hope that they have seen a different example in us! I hope that they have seen that we love God, are faithful to Him, seek to serve and please Him. I hope that they will see that we have tried to do what was right in God’s sight.

Just remember every day that you live that you are leaving a legacy that will be followed. They will be more like you than you are comfortable with. We will see our failures and mistakes often magnified in the lives of our children.

Good reason to seek God and please Him with all that is within us!
