Loving speech

2Corinthians 7:3 I speak not this to condemn you: for I have said before, that ye are in our hearts to die and live with you.

Paul spoke harshly sometimes to those that he loved. He reminds them in this verse that it is never to condemn them or not love them but rather because he does love them. He reminds them that he talks this way but that they are in his heart.

He loves them. He will live and die with them.

What sweet friend! Imagine someone loving you so much that they would say what they thought and yet never quit loving you. They will be your friend in the good times and in the bad.

This is not a normal relationship and it is a rare person who will be that kind of friend to you. If you have one you better count yourself super blessed.

We want to please Him

2Corinthians 5:9 Wherefore we labour, that, whether present or absent, we may be accepted of him.

We are already made accepted in Christ, the Beloved Ephesians 1:6. Since we are accepted and He has been so good and gracious to us it is only natural that our desire is to please Him. We want to do what He wants us to do. We work at it.

I am accepted by my wife like I am and whatever I do but I will not take advantage of that. I will work at doing things that please her, not to be accepted but because I am. I want to please her. I want to please Christ.

The excellency of the power of God

2Corinthians 4:7 But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.

God Himself indwells us. We are the temple of the Holy Spirit. We have been given truth and revelation far above what we deserve. The truth can be summed up in us as Christ in you the hope of glory.

But notice that God uses weak men and women so that we as well as others can realize that it is not us but Him. We are but earthen vessels. We are weak. We are not in and of ourselves able to live the Christian life, glorify God, or do anything of any worth.

But the Lord Jesus living in us does it all and He gets the glory.

Our sufficiency is of God

2Corinthians 3:5 Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think any thing as of ourselves; but our sufficiency is of God;

We were not sufficient to save ourselves. We are not sufficient to do ministry. We are not sufficient to do anything. But since we are new creatures now and Christ lives in us and the life which we now live we live by the faith of the Son of God, He is sufficient. It is Christ living in us.

Triumph in Christ!

2Corinthians 2:14 Now thanks be unto God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ, and maketh manifest the savour of his knowledge by us in every place.

Thank God because He always causes us to triumph. There are several things we should note about this triumph.

We triumph not on our own but thanks to God.

Our triumph has as a purpose to make clear the knowledge of Him and to leave a sweet savor or fragrance just because of who He is and what He has done.

But the key to all is that our triumph is “IN” Christ. He is our victory. He won the victory. He lives in and works through us.

Study out what it means to be “in Christ!” Look up all those verses and see what they say and who we are and what we have in Him!
