Newest Missionaries out of Vision

cc

Chris Fies made the following announcement to Vision this morning:

After prayerfully considering different directions in which we could go in serving the Lord. Kathy and I have decided to become missionaries to the unreached people of the world. We will be doing this with an exciting new ministry here at Vision called Voice in the Villages. Lord willing you will be hearing more about this in the coming weeks and months. Pray for us as we take the next step in doing what the Lord has for us.

I hope that you will join me in praying for Chris and Kathy as they start on this new venture seeking to extend the kingdom of God!

The Africa Project

I just got the following letter from a dear brother! What an encouragement!

Brother Austin

After watching your video about challenging others to help getting mp3 players into parts of Africa to evangelize and disciple, right then I began to pray.

I asked God to give me the resources to buy a lot of mp3s to send to you but I got no answer. I waited patiently for His answer; but instead He told me to you this.

Thank you Bro. Austin for your passion and love for our Savior and Lord Jesus Christ. Your compassion for the lost and dying world has been placed in the hearts of many to reach the world with the Gospel.

Today I may not be out there in the fields of Africa, but since we have returned I have learned a great deal about the power of intercessory prayer. Praying on the behalf of those laboring throughout Africa.

I am filled with joy to give you this to help Vision Baptist Mission to go therefore.

God bless you Bro. Austin

Since I don’t have permission to post his name I will withhold it for now. But this dear brother just sent $500 towards the project. This is an answer to prayer. This is God moving and confirming in my heart that we are on the right track.

Keith Shumaker will be back in Burkina Faso soon and we will be getting started. God bless you my brother. You have made a big difference.

Michael Lovett, missionary to South Africa

d

Michael Lovett is a missionary to South Africa with Macedonia World Baptist Missions. He was involved in a horrific motorcycle accident yesterday as you have already read on this blog.

I just got off the phone with Mrs. Lovett. I hope I get most of this right but I think you will want to be praying for them.

Brother Lovett was in X-ray when I called. They need clear pictures to assess the damage of basically his whole body, arms, chest, legs, pelvic area, etc. He is in lots of pain.

They have put a halo around his right wrist and forearm. They have been able to save both hands. It will be a long time before he gets use or mobility in his hands.

They put a pin in his bicep area, fragments moved around that had to be cleared out. This is a cause for concern about infection. Basically both arms have been shattered and crushed.

Right not he is out of crisis and getting stabilized. There had been restricted blood flow due to a bone coming apart in his shoulder that was blocking the carotidic artery. His vitals are now stable.

He is on pain medication every 3 hours but still suffering. His mind is playing tricks on him due to the medicine!

They do have good medical care. They will need a letter of guarantee which she should be able to get from their insurance company on Monday.

He will need at least one more surgery or two

Please pray for his comfort. He can’t even scratch nose. They want basically no movement until the surgeons have made sure all fragments of the bones are cleared, etc.

Pray for the family. Pray for the doctors. An accident of this magnitude is always horrible but being on the other side of the world compounds things even though they have good medical care they are away from family!

Constant danger. Safe return doubtful.

Last night here in Derry, Northern Ireland one of the men read the following in the World Evangelism Conference. I wonder what God is doing in your heart today. As you read this article I want you to prepare to hear about what men and women are doing to get the gospel to the world and it is often unappreciated!

In 1915, twenty-eight men were alone, trapped in the ice-covered waters of Antarctica’s treacherous seas. “Frozen,” as one man put it, “like an almond in the middle of a chocolate bar.” These were the men of the Imperial Trans-Antarctic Expedition in the coldest climate on earth. They suffered frostbite, gangrene, hysteria, starvation, all for the glory of being the first ones to cross the Antarctic continent from sea to sea, the greatest polar journey ever attempted to date. The leader of the expedition, Sir Ernest Shackleton, had put an ad in the newspaper that read:

“Men wanted for hazardous journey. Small wages. Bitter cold. Long months of complete darkness. Constant danger. Safe return doubtful. Honor and recognition in case of success. Ernest Shackleton.”

And 5000 people applied.

Why?

They wanted some great purpose and passion in their lives. Samuel Zwemer, missionary to the Muslims said that “so many young people’s minds and hearts are occupied by weak things, by inconsequential things. Their eyes have never been illumined by a great vision, their mind has never been gripped by unselfish thoughts, their hearts have never been thrilled with the passion for the lost, their hands have never grown weary and strong in the lifting of a great burden.”

If you want to be gripped by a cause greater than yourself…I present you with the cause of the Christless millions and the call to leave houses and lands and family and friends…and find some pocket of people who haven’t heard the Gospel, like gypsie nomads, urban businessmen, or isolated mountaineers.

Would you give up your life? Would you go?

This week three of our men went where few men are willing to go and did what nearly no man is willing to do. They were giving out Bibles in a Muslim country where it was against the law. They go blindly into towns looking for people who have asked for a Bible over the Internet. They always know that they might encounter danger. Someone, a spy, the police, could be watching and arrest them.

Just this week three men were in a remote village in Northern Africa. They were meeting a man that had asked for a copy of the Bible. Two of the men were Americans, one was a northern African believer. The man came to the bus station. He met the North African believer and preacher at the bus. Turns out that he was a policeman.

His son had requested a Bible. One of the Americans and the North African were arrested. The American was held for about 10 hours. We were praying all over the world concerned about what was going to happen. After 10 hours our American friend was freed.

Not only was he freed but all the incriminating evidence was turned over to him. The police didn’t even look at it. They had many Bibles, a computer, a video camera with them. It would have been horrible if the police had looked but God closed their eyes.

Still for over another 12 hours the North African preacher was held in custody. He is an unbelievable man. He is one of my heroes. He didn’t not back down. He didn’t try to deny who he was or what he was doing.

He went through the plan of salvation at least two times starting with Adam. He told them why he loved Jesus.

I just want you to know that God is still at work. Great and wonderful God things are still happening everyday. God is being magnified. He is still protecting His people and answering prayer.

Some of my friends think that you will criticize this effort or maybe it will make you afraid to serve God. My answer to them and you is that you have yet to grasp the importance of what God is doing in the world. You have not yet realized the power of a life totally surrendered to God.

Maybe no one today will recognize what happened. Maybe no one will honor them but our God does.
I am just thankful that I know men of God like these today.

Good news

The day started rough and still has had its costs but things are already moving along. David, Katie, and Chloe changed their tickets and stayed in Lima to get their documents fixed. The costs for today are something like the following:

US Passports cost $270
Required Peruvian documents $30

David lost his Mac Computer!!
He lost his Bible, some books, clothes, backpack, etc. The Bible obviously is a lost but the computer is the most costly!

Changing their tickets was about $120. Taxis and day in Lima was around $100.

So the losses for today just in documents was about $520. Still no computer, etc but all are ok, just very discouraged and tired.

That is about it for David and Katie but Chris and Andria will still be out money and are working to figure out what that cost will be!

Chris will pay about $200 to change tickets so that he can go by the Peruvian Government offices to fix the loss of documents.

Chris documents will also be about $150. The family will have to leave the Pastor’s School at least a day early, stay in a hotel and deal with the Lima expenses. Chris total will be something like $600 to $700. All this is after working on actual costs and talking to the people who handle this.

So it has been a good day after all the mess. Not easy for them but at least the expenses are “NOT” astronomical. They do live on a pretty tight budget so these expenses do mess up any budget.

Thanks for praying. I promised to keep you updated and that is all I know at this time.
