Missionaries, Please listen

I want to challenge every missionary to listen to this sermon by Missionary to Kenya Randy Stirewalt speaking on how to do mission work. I am very impressed with him and the ministry. He is preaching on the Biblical Method for church planting.

This man will be speaking at the Latin Bridge retreat January 6-7, 2012.

The Right Steps Toward World Evangelism

Lesson in a mini session at the Summit

Be absolutely sure of your own salvation

  • Several missionaries have gotten saved after serving on the field
  • Others have fallen into deep sin
  • Others have totally quit on God
  • It is Biblical to make your calling and election sure!

II Peter 1:10 Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall:

II Corinthians 13:5 Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?

Be an ardent student of the word of God

  • Read it all through many times-how can you claim to be a teacher and preacher of a book that you have not read many times
  • Be disciplined in spending time with God each day. If you aren’t disciplined enough to spend time everyday to personally grow then how will you study in a disciplined manner to teach others
  • As a student you read to learn and apply! If God’s Word does not change you then how will it change others?
  • You should be able to see God changing you through the Word. If the Word doesn’t work in your life then how do you expect it to work in someone else’s life.
  • Become a self feeder

Fall in love with the church

  • If you don’t like fellowship with God’s people how will you spend a life time bringing others into the family and building the family
  • Church planting is the only way to really fulfill the Great Commission!

Matthew 28:18-20 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. 19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: 20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

  • Learn how to do church work
  • Study the pastoral epistles until you are very familiar with them
  • Learn how to treat your brothers and sisters in Christ
  • Be very helpful to the pastor, missionary, church staff and other spiritual leaders

Luke 22:27 For whether is greater, he that sitteth at meat, or he that serveth? is not he that sitteth at meat? but I am among you as he that serveth.

  • You learn more by serving than studying and leading!
  • No doctor, lawyer, or dentist begins work without training, and neither should a missionary.  The best place to get this training is in your church and on the field.  You need to get involved in the ministries of your church.

Become a discipling machine, if you do not disciple now you will not do so then either, “remember you will only be more of tomorrow whatever you are today!”

  • The key ministry used all over the world is discipleship
  • We go to reproduce others like ourselves
  • That means you have to be who you should be
  • That means that you need experience in taking a person from the beginning all the way through maturity
  • If you do not know how or will not reproduce yourself on the mission field then do not go.
  • You have to learn to work with people that no one else would.
  • You have to learn to swim in sewage
  • You have to realize that it is not the Bible College’s job to reproduce men, it is your responsibility to reproduce Christ in those that surround you.
  • Everyone must be discipled.
  • Know how to disciple before you go over.
  • The process is a funnel, you win (lots) people to Christ, you disciple (some) those that accept Christ and then you train (few) those who are called of God to do the work.

Learn to cross the street and find new people and witness to them and get them in church

  • Be involved in local outreach and getting to lost people to share the gospel with them
  • Remember to work the process and not be so worried about the product
  • You will learn to do hard work but then you must learn to do smart work

Read missionary biographies

  • Take notes
  • Think of the difficulties and trials that accompany missionary life.
  • Discuss them clearly with your wife and family
  • Keep a journal as you read and discuss so that you work through foreseeable problems

Get real training for the mission field

  • Bible College training is very important. Knowing your Bible is important
  • Bible Colleges do little to train however in cross cultural ministry.
  • They teach theory not practice but you can get lots of practice if you work at it
  • Get with missionaries with actual field time and that have been successfully used of God
  • Spend at least 6 months on the field to see how you and your wife will adapt

Develop personal convictions so that you can stand no matter what others do or think

  • Get victory over sin and temptation
  • Get your thought life under control
  • Do by living out who you are, pay your bills, and do not be known as a deadbeat or someone who does not pay your bills
  • Develop a strong marriage because it will be tested

Become a disciplined and self motivated person

  • Develop your gifts and be honest with yourself
  • He will give you the desire and ability to do it Philippians 2:13
  • You will have inescapable thoughts
  • You will fill the necessity and woe laid on you
I Corinthians 9:16-17
  • Know who you are and just live out who you are in Christ

Notice what I didn’t say

  • Worrying about where you are going to go-mission field
  • Getting to the field as quickly as possible without getting trained
  • Getting a prayer card
  • Getting a mission board
  • Getting there syndrome

Dreams that God has put on my heart!

Yesterday was Celebration Sunday as you know. I gave you some dreams that God has placed on my heart. I wanted to share them in print so you wouldn’t forget them nor will I. Though it was a rainy day yesterday God really blessed. Now I pass on to you what is on my heart for you to pray with me about. Feel free to question me about anything you see here.

I can only share with you the dreams that God has put in my heart

I am asking God for 100 families from Vision serving all over the world in the next 10 years!

I am asking God to allow us to send men and women through our church mission to the world from foreign countries to foreign countries!

I am asking God to give us enough strong, dedicated people in this church to raise up, train, and send out this vast army! (It will take a very strong local church with super dedicated people to do all that God has placed on my heart. Though you will not go you can help me help those that will go. We must pray for them, train them, and send them out to do God’s will)

I am asking God for a place to work and prepare people from in a good building and piece of property!

I am asking God to allow us to start 100 churches across the USA that will be like Vision with a heart to reach the world and their community!

I asking God to allow our church to go into downtown Atlanta and love the unloved and make a difference right here in our community!

I am asking God to allow Vision to have One Million dollars given through us to world evangelism per year!

I am asking God to allow Vision to prepare and send materials from here to the people who have the least materials in their hands! (I am asking God to give us men to do this right now and others who will prepare to go!)

I am asking God to allow us start TV and radio stations in countries that are not getting the gospel!

I am asking God to raise up men who will come and help us get the gospel to the world in our generation!

I am asking God to fill the Our Generation Training Center with students who will make an impact here and around the world!

I am asking God to let us impact our community with the word of God in such a way that His name will be glorified!

I am asking God to magnify His name in all the world through the ministry of Vision!

I am asking God to give His Word free course and let it run and be glorified all over the world!

I am asking God to let us show people how to live a victorious Christian life free from the bondage of legalism but in holiness and purity!

I would love to hear your comments.

Celebration Sunday at Vision

God blessed us greatly yesterday. Vision is now officially 4 years old. He gave us 160 people in attendance. It was a great day.

I was so proud of all the hard work that everyone did as we prepared for the day. Thanks to all of you. I know that you worked hard getting videos together, decorating, inviting, praying, cleaning, cooking, and a thousand other things that I cannot think of right now.

There were beautiful testimonies. I thought the day was just perfect. I am honored that God allows me to pastor such wonderful people.

Here are a few photos that Kathy Fies took.

Elizabeth Watson is truly a remarkable Sunday School teacher. She loves her kids. She has painted and prepared her room beautifully. She is dressed as a pirate here. No wonder the kids love her class. Thank you Mrs. Elizabeth for all you do. You are a blessing and an inspiration to all of us.

d

Each of these pictures is of different classes as they are meeting. I am so grateful that we have teachers that are willing to teach in less than great conditions and God is still using them to reach new people with the gospel message.
x

You can see that it was all set up for the meal after we got through with Sunday School and the morning service. The people did a great job decorating and preparing everything.
d

What is really good is when God brings in so many that people are looking for chairs. I love seeing how our people jump up and run to the door to welcome people and to help them find where they are going. I loved watching tears run down faces yesterday as we considered how our God loves us just like we are.

The story of grace is so wonderful and they love hearing that God loves them just like they are and where they are. I love teaching His truth.
d

If you have not yet visited Vision and are looking for a great church I can tell you that there is a group for you waiting to receive you right now. You will find a place to fit in. You will be loved and taught the Word of God.
x

I am looking forward to what God is going to do with our teens. He has done so much in bringing a great group of young people to Vision.
d

The Spanish church had a great day yesterday and it was wonderful to have them in the main service. We are not two churches but one. We love every one of the people that God has given us at Vision

Our Sunday School classes have to meet in a very unique way but it is worth it to all of us. God has allowed us to give over $400,000 to missions in just over 4 years so a little sacrifice on this side of the water is worth it to get the gospel to the world.

a

The children’s ministry came down and sang for us. It was a wonderful blessing for everyone. I thank God for the good work that David Velke has done and now look forward to how God is going to use Robert Canfield as our new Children’s pastor.

d
d

Pastor Ronald Tubillas and the Spanish Church were also in the service. They sang a special and it was a great blessing. I pray that the day comes when we will have many different languages in our services all worshipping together. A little taste of heaven that will be.

d

Pastor Ronald also preached and our missionary Mark Coffey translated. It was a great message and major encouragement.

f

God gave us great music as usual. It is great seeing more people get involved.

f

d

It was really great to have Pastor Ronald translating the message into Spanish. The people could then listen through their ear phones. God is really using this man.
d

Well I have shown you a bunch of pictures and taken more time than usual but this is a day to remember. I am excited about what God has done and what He is going to do.

It has been 4 years. He has given us 8 missionary families sent out of our church. He has given us about 10 more that are preparing to go.

Yesterday our second daughter church also launched. God gave the Omega Baptist Church in Arequipa, Peru more in attendance than we had with 166 and 8 salvation decisions. God is always so good to us.

I will list some of the things that I am asking God to do in prayer in another post. Thanks for all each of you did and do.
