Training should be are priority ministry. The idea of training men and women to be leaders of leaders is not a ministry we should undertake because we have been directed to do so by anyone. We do so because we believe with all of our hearts that to train up leaders of leaders is our priority ministry, it’s the purpose that God has put us into the ministry. We should not say this from a position of boasting, but rather that this is clearly what the Bible has taught us.
In Ephesians 4:11-12 we find that God has given gifted people to the church.
“And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:
Those gifted people are to perfect the saints. They are to mature the saints, to train the saints, to prepare the saints, so the saints can go forth and do the work that God has called them to do. As they prepare the saints, they will do the work of the ministry.
That means my job, as a pastor, my job, as a missionary, is not to do the work, but to train to do the work, enable to do the work, and get them to do the work, and step out of the way and let them do the work. As much as I might like to boast in doing the work, it’s my job to get them to do the work.
Once they’re doing the work, and everybody gets excited about doing the work and everybody finds out how important they are, the church will be edified and the church will grow, and God will continue to bless and work in our church.
