don’t miss this Thursday night

d

This Thursday night we will have the privilege of having Pastor Tom Hatley preach for us. He is a good preacher and man of God. He is Natasha Tolson’s former pastor. I am really excited about having him. I hope you will invite your friends and come enjoy a super special service.

c

He is the pastor of Fellowship Baptist Church in Maryville, Tennessee.

d

Fellowship and Pastor Hatley gave us our bus that we are running to pick up children for church.

d

He is a huge Tennessee fan. God has blessed Brother Hatley with a beautiful family.

c

Get here early and bring a friend. You will not want to miss this old time gospel preacher.

What would Paul say about us?

Colossians 4:7  All my state shall Tychicus declare unto you, who is a beloved brother, and a faithful minister and fellowservant in the Lord:

Paul, the most sold out, dedicated worker I can image, says some really wonderful and kind things about Tychicus.

He calls him a beloved brother so obviously Paul loved him very much. I appreciate that but the next two words just jump off the page for me.

Paul calls him a faithful minister or servant. Now that is an honor for someone like Paul to say. Remember this is the Paul that wouldn’t allow John Mark to go on the missionary journey because John Mark wasn’t faithful. Paul could be hard and demanding but Tychicus has passed the test.

Then Paul called him a fellowservant putting him right along side of Paul himself. What an honor that Paul would think of him not as a helper but right there beside him.

I wonder now what would Paul say about me if we worked together. Would he see me as a faithful servant or do I show a lack of faithfulness. Would he consider me a fellowservant.

I know someone is going to say that they do not care what others think but I do, especially great servants of God like Paul.

I want to work at being a better servant, more faithful, and in my place doing what I was called to do.

Tomorrow’s reading will be Jude 1 which is the only chapter in that book. Then during the month of June we will read I Corinthians and II Corinthians. I must thank Kyle Shreve for helping me with our Bible reading plan.

William Carey’s famous message

d

Today is the 218th anniversary of William Carey’s famous message, Expect great things, Attempt great things from God. He preached that message to the Baptist Association Meeting in Northampton, England. He used this message to urge his Baptist brothers to get involved in world evangelism.

William Carey is one of my heroes. He was greatly used of God. I would like to remind you that this challenge is still out there. We still should be Expecting Great Things but we must be Attempting Great Things.

Pray that God will raise up laborers to send to His harvest. Pray that God will send us more students to train at the Our Generation Training Center. Pray that God will allow us to give more as a church to the cause of world evangelism. I am asking Him to allow us to give $1,000,000 a year to missions as soon as possible.

I think right now of places all over the world that remain without a gospel witness and my heart breaks. Will you pray? Will you get involved?

Happy Anniversary to Jeremy and Rebekah Hall

f

Jeremy and Bekah Hall are serving as church planting missionaries in Arequipa, Peru. They are a tremendous blessing to all who know them.

I am pretty sure that today is their wedding anniversary and so wanted to tell them that we love them and are very thankful to God for them.

First funeral at Vision

Yesterday, I conducted my first funeral as pastor of Vision Baptist Church. It has been over four years. We have had some funerals but not of our members or their immediate families. I did conduct my dad’s funeral but they were no longer members of Vision

This is the message that I preached for little Wesley Allen Wei Tolson’s graveside.

More Precious than Gold

I Peter 1:7

Your faith has been tested and proven
Faith put on trial
It has been a fiery trial
Everyone has trials and this one in particular is not uncommon
What is uncommon is your love for God and your faith in Him

Your faith is more precious, worth more than gold
You have trusted God with your eternal destiny
You have trusted God with your earthy future
You have trusted Him with the daily trials
When the why and the why me loomed so great on the horizon you trusted God

Passing the test brings praise, honor, and glory to Jesus
People have marveled at the way you have been able to deal with it
You and little Wesley Allen Wei Tolson has been used to bring great praise, honor and glory to Jesus
I am personally challenged to trust God more and honor Him in my trials and testings
You have shown how the grace of God can carry us through the fiery trial and still bring honor and glory to Jesus

In Heaven they sing the song you have lived over the last few months

Revelation 4:11 Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.

Mark and Natasha have been shining examples to all of us. I am so blessed to know them and to see the grace of God over all their lives. Please continue to pray for them.
