Reading plan for April

by Kyle Shreve

For the month of April, we will be reading through a few books of the Bible!

On this plan, we will start by read Colossians which will be a fantastic opportunity for us to learn this book as we study it together in services.

Next reading Romans will help give us a further love an appreciation of the gospel, which is always a good thing. We’ll then return to Colossians, which will be a great way to review this book and further learn about our identity in Christ, and we’ll finish with Galatians, an excellent tie in with Romans.

I hope that you’ll read the chapter of the day with us every day, and be sure to be looking for updates and other important information.

Drinks for the dying

Proverbs 31:6-7 Give strong drink unto him that is ready to perish, and wine unto those that be of heavy hearts. Let him drink, and forget his poverty, and remember his misery no more.

Amazing but here is permission to give wine and strong drink to someone. Give it to the guy that is about to die or is super depressed. Let him drink and forget all of his problems. This is the advice of the king’s mom but she makes it clear that the drink is not for kings or leaders.

Alcohol has a way of messing up your thinking. She warns her son to steer clear. She basically says-the drinking is for the loser not the leader.

Fools lift themselves up

Proverbs 30:32 If thou hast done foolishly in lifting up thyself, or if thou hast thought evil, lay thine hand upon thy mouth.

It is a foolish thing to exalt yourself-to lift yourself up-to promote yourself. Getting evil thoughts, devising plans that aren’t right should cause us to stop and reflect.

Put your hand on your mouth. Get in a pensive mood. Think about it before you do it. Fools rush in!

Maybe at work you want that raise and you are trying to promote yourself. Maybe you want to do something to make others look bad so you look good. Stop. Think before you act.

Maybe in the ministry you want to look good, you want the approval of your brethren so you say things that will harm the name of another to make you look good or you shamelessly promote yourself and your ministry. Put your hand on your mouth. Think before you do something like that.

The trap of fear

Proverbs 29:25  The fear of man bringeth a snare: but whoso putteth his trust in the LORD shall be safe.

How often do we cause our fear of man to trap us. We are afraid of what they think. We want them to like us. We worry more about what others think than what God Himself thinks. We have a major problem with “peer pressure!” We can say it is a teen problem but adults seem to be afflicted with the same problem.

How about we decide to trust God and what He will do in our lives and forget man’s approval. How about we make decisions based on what God wants and not what our friends want.

That would make for some revolutionary thought processes-wouldn’t it?
