How to set up and live with a budget!

Why you should support Kevin White

q

Kevin White is a church planting missionary in Cochabamba, Bolivia. God is using him in great ways. He currently is working in two churches with plans to start more.

He really understands and loves the Bolivian people. He has a way of crossing the cultural lines and adapting to the people. He is very loved in the churches where he works.

I have had the privilege of knowing Kevin and Beth for a long time. They are strong, godly, Christians. They live out their faith. They are givers, servants, leader trainers. They are not talking about doing the work but are doing it!

I have preached for Kevin many times. Every time things have been done first class, souls have been saved, growth has been obvious, and his vision has been contagious.

I hope you will have him into your church to preach and share his burden. I hope you will support him as the work he does grows everyday.

I am very proud to know, work with, and recommend Kevin White to you.

KTUAM #4

The Our Generation Leadership Camp

Let’s be honest, traveling around the world is expensive. Airfare alone with all its hidden costs can easily break anyone’s budget. But what if you could see the world, without leaving the United States?
The world itself has gotten smaller. It was once normal that in order to taste authentic Indian food, you would need to travel to India. Or, if you had an interest in Somalia, it would be nearly impossible to get to Somalia to meet and converse with a Somalian. Those days, however, are over.

This summer in Atlanta, Georgia; high school and college age students can see the world in what is becoming one of the most culturally diverse cities in the nation. In the city of Atlanta, within one hour you can make it to either the largest Islamic mosque in the Southeastern United States or the largest Hindu temple within the entire country. There are an estimated 100,000 Chinese and 75,000 Muslims living in the Atlanta area. In addition to these people groups there are also Korean, Japanese, Indian, Pakistani, Vietnamese, Bosnian and many more ethnicities that are all found in the city.

This five day long camp is also unique in that it directs students towards the cause of world missions. Students will spend time on the street, in a mosque, at a Buddhist temple and visit many other places as they learn about cultures and religions from all over the world that need to hear the Gospel message. Not only will they be able to have experiences that many Americans have not had, but they will also be challenged by missionaries from around the world and spend time with them as well.

The camp takes place June 14-18. What is the cost? At only $125 ($25 registration fee and $100 camp fee), it is certainly cheaper than flying round trip to nearly any city within the USA. You can find out more information and register now by going to bcwe.org and clicking on events. You do not want to miss this camp, it is five days that can change the world.

Being a servant as a missionary

“We are not called to help people. We are called to follow Jesus, in whose service we learn who we are and how we are to help and be helped.” STANLEY HAUERWAS AND WILLIAM H. WILLIMON

We serve people by entering into a relationship of love and mutual commitment.

In the early stages servanthood may be best seen when we are willing to adjust to the local cultural patterns, including learning the language. Jesus came into our human context Un L 14), adjusted to the Jewish culture (Lk 2:52) and lived among us so that when the time was right he would accomplish the redemption of all who would believe. This, of course, is task effectiveness. Jesus served us exquisitely in each of these three areas, suggesting that in the same way we can be a servant to others.

I believe that most people going overseas are quite well equipped in task effectiveness; that is, they are technically competent to do the job because most schools and workshops focus on job skills.

What could missionaries do to more effectively minister the gospel of Christ in your culture?

“Missionaries could more effectively minister the gospel of Christ if they did not think they were so superior to us.”

Good intentions are insufficient when entering another culture. We must also be equipped with the knowledge and competencies to function skillfully

Servanthood is a conscious effort to choose one direction and one set of values over another. There is no mystery here. The basic premise is that we have a model of true servanthood in Christ, but we must follow him in his humble servant role, not in his Lord and Christ roles (chap. 3).

“To hold to a doctrine or an opinion with the intellect alone is not to believe it. A man’s real belief is that which he lives by.” GEORGE MCDONALD

When God chose to connect with humans, he did so as a servant. It was a most unlikely way to connect, for servants are usually invisible. They wear white uniforms, perform lowly tasks, remain largely silent and, if effective, seem not to be there. People look past them and rarely acknowledge them until needed for a chore. Their rights are few, their power negligible and their status as the dust.
