f

Keith Shumaker is a missionary to Burkina Faso. David Lundy and I will be visiting him in just a few days. He is a wonderful missionary and being greatly used of God. You saw a post just two before this one that tells you more about his ministry.

Today is his birthday. I wanted to wish him a very happy birthday from Vision Baptist Church. Thanks for all you do!

Kevin White to be in Mission’s Conference

x

Second reminder today, this year’s World Vision Celebration will be September 16-19, 2010. It is going to be a tremendous time as we watch what God allows us to do in helping get His Word to the world.

Kevin and Beth White are another family that will be with us this year. The World Evangelism Committee is already hard at work getting ready for the conference.

You will love the White family. They serve in Cochabamba, Bolivia.

Bolivia is located in South America. Check out the bordering countries.

Keith Shumaker to be in Mission’s Conference

s

September 16-19, 2010 will be our World Vision Celebration. This is our mission’s conference. Preparations are already underway. I just confirmed that Keith and Rebecca Shumaker will be with us for the conference.

This is a very unique family. They live and serve in Ouagdougou, Burkina Faso on the continent of Africa.

Here are the countries of Africa. Be sure and locate Burkina Faso.

d

Keith has had malaria well over 20 times. He and Rebecca are some of the most sacrificial people that I have ever met. You will be thrilled by their testimonies.

Lord willing, they will be with us on several Thursday evenings and also before they return to Burkina Faso we will have a blessing service for them.

Joel Osteen blesses Houston’s new (gay) mayor Annise Parker

The following excerpts come from an article with this post’s title from USA Today. Consider if a Bible preaching church would participate? Consider what the Lord would have us to do.

Click on this link and read the entire article.

Annise Parker, the newly-elected happens-to-be-lesbian mayor of Houston was sworn in Monday and the opening prayer was given by … Rev. Joel Osteen.

Now (hat tip to Mark Silkfor pointing me to the Box Turtle Bulletin) writer Timothy Kincaid suggests to his gay readership that they look at Osteen more fully and fairly. Kincaid’s post (which carries a disclaimer that others on the staff of the webzine don’t necessarily agreed) says:

I think it would be useful for our community to adopt a more nuanced view of religious leaders. By doing so, we might find ourselves with unexpected allies.

Joel Osteen does not agree with my understanding of Scripture; but his disagreement does not make him a hater or a bigot. And I recognize the value in having a lesbian politician — elected despite her opponent’s religion-based homophobic campaign — being given blessing by the pastor of the largest congregation in the nation.

Jim Elliot and 4 others were martyred 53 years ago

s

Jim Elliot, Ed McCully, Roger Youderian, Pete Fleming, and their pilot, Nate Saint were all killed by the Auca Indians on January 8, 1956. Jim had not been on the field for 4 full years when he was killed. Jim gave his life for the cause of Jesus Christ at the tender age of 28.

Jim Elliot has been one of my heroes in the faith for many years. God used his life and faith to challenge me. He still challenges me to do something for God.

I hope you will not forgive those that have given so much to get the gospel to the world. I hope you will become as committed to the Lord Jesus Christ as we see in the life of Jim Elliot.

Here are some life changing quotes to consider:

“He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain what he cannot lose.”

“Father, make of me a crisis man. Bring those I contact to decision. Let me not be a milepost on a single road; make me a fork, that men must turn one way or another on facing Christ in me.”

“One does not surrender a life in an instant. That which is lifelong can only be surrendered in a lifetime.”

“Wherever you are, be all there. Live to the hilt every situation you believe to be the will of God.”

“God, I pray Thee, light these idle sticks of my life and may I burn for Thee. Consume my life, my God, for it is Thine. I seek not a long life, but a full one, like you, LORD Jesus.”

“Saturate me with the oil of Thy Spirit, that I may be aflame. Make me Thy fuel O flame of God.”

“Oh, the fullness, pleasure, sheer excitement of knowing God on earth!”

“Father, take my life, yea, my blood if Thou wilt, and consume it with Thine enveloping fire. I would not save it, for it is not mine to save. Have it Lord, have it all. Pour out my life as an oblation for that world. Blood is only of value as it flows before Thine altar.”

“God deliver me from the dread asbestos of ‘other things.’ Saturate me with the oil of the Spirit that I may be a flame for you.”

“Father, let me be weak that I might loose my clutch on everything temporal. My life, my reputation, my possessions, Lord, let me loose the tension of the grasping hand.”
